Rattlesnake

Rattlesnake

The Rattlesnake Plant (Calathea lancifolia) is a stunning, ornamental plant known for its striking foliage. It belongs to the Calathea genus and is sometimes called the “Rattlesnake Plant” because of the unique patterns on its leaves that resemble the markings on a rattlesnake’s skin.

SunLight:

  • Ideal Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate low light, but its vibrant colors will fade in insufficient light.
  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves and cause fading of the patterns.

Water:

Watering Frequency: Rattlesnake plants like consistently moist soil but not soggy. Water when the top inch or so of the soil feels dry.

Water Quality: It's best to use filtered water, as Calatheas are sensitive to fluoride and chlorine, which can cause browning of the leaf tips.

  • Signs of Overwatering: Yellowing leaves, soggy soil.
  • Signs of Underwatering: Wilting or dry, crispy leaf tips.

Temperature:

Optimal Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Avoid placing it in areas where the temperature dips below 60°F (15°C).

Cold Sensitivity: It is sensitive to cold drafts or sudden temperature changes.
